What is the difference between a ticket, a support request, and a project?

Tickets

  • A ticket is created for issues that can be resolved in a short amount of time.
  • Does not require significant expert input.
  • Can be summed up in a single objective.

Examples

Assistance in downloading data from a server, providing information on what tools are available and where they may be found, or visualising data as part of common workflows.

Support requests

  • Can be summarised in a single objective.
  • Requires a more significant level of time and expert input than a ticket.

Requirements

  • Completion of the MOU.
  • Inclusion in publications.
  • Can only be created by registered users.

Examples

Conducting variant calling where a custom pipeline is not required, gene expression enrichment analysis on a set of differentially expressed genes, or conducting PCA on a dataset.

Projects

  • A project is a request that is made up of multiple objectives.
  • May be ongoing, with objectives added as the project evolves.
  • Can only be created by registered users.
  • Requires the creation of a Redmine project.

Requirements

  • Completion of the MOU.
  • Inclusion in publications.
  • The creation of a Redmine project.

Examples

The development of new tools or pipelines, or the de-novo assembly or annotation of a genome.
